Shalom...
It is our pleasure to welcome you to the website for Temple Beth Torah, a small and friendly unaffiliated, egalitarian congregation located in the heart of beautiful Old Wethersfield.
Erev Shabbat services are held every Friday evening from September through June at 7:30 p.m., using the gender-neutral Sim Shalom Siddur, and we conduct a Shabbat morning service and/or Torah Study once each month. High Holiday services are conducted on both days of Rosh Hashanah (including Tashlich at the cove in Old Wethersfield), and Kol Nidre and Yom Kippur. We also hold participatory family services on all major holidays as well as special Shabbat and other programs and activities throughout the year -- a second-night family Passover seder, dairy potluck supper in the sukkah, Megillah reading and Purim shpiel, and a Tu B'Shevat seder, to name just a few. Women and men are called to the Torah and counted toward a minyan. We are very pleased to announce that, as of August 1, 2008, our rabbi will be Rabbi Seth Riemer.
We offer Sunday School for students ranging in age from pre-schoolers to pre-B'nai Mitzvah.
We own our historic building, which was formerly a Methodist church, at 130 Main Street, and our Memorial Park, adjacent to the Emanuel Synagogue cemetery on Jordan Lane in Wethersfield. Members of the TBT family come from Wethersfield, Rocky Hill, West Hartford and Glastonbury, as well as several other towns in Greater Hartford. Congregational business is conducted at a monthly Board of Directors meeting and all members are welcome to attend and encouraged to participate. Our Felicia B. Shpall Sisterhood and our Men's Club sponsor a number of programs throughout the year. Further information about both groups is available on this website.
Temple Beth Torah welcomes new members throughout the year. Newcomers purchasing tickets for our High Holiday services may apply the cost of tickets toward membership dues. Member dues includes attendance at High Holiday services for all family members, including children living at home; other family members and friends may attend for a reasonable fee. Dues may be pro-rated for those new members who join after January 1st.
In 2005, Temple Beth Torah celebrated its 50th anniversary, and we continue to work closely together to ensure a bright future. The best way to know the very special place that is Temple Beth Torah is to come to services any Friday evening at 7:30 p.m. and to meet and worship with the members of the TBT Family.
If you would like more information about our Temple, membership or activities, please use our Contact Us page to send an e-mail inquiry. We look forward to hearing from you and to seeing you in shul.
Sincerely,
Debra and Joseph Hammer
